Warm sunshine gives way to thunderstorms later today
A dry, warm start with sunny spells and patchy cloud across the North West this morning. Cloud thickens from the south through the afternoon as heavy, thundery rain pushes into Cheshire and southern areas late in the day.
The thundery rain spreads north across the whole region this evening, with torrential downpours, frequent lightning and even large hail possible. A yellow thunderstorm warning is in force for parts of the region, so take care if travelling.
The rain clears northwards overnight, leaving a drier, milder night with some clear spells. Highs of 20C to 22C today, staying no lower than around 12C tonight. Winds mostly light to moderate, with gusts of 15 to 25 mph, locally stronger near any storms and on exposed coasts and hills.
