Brighter and fresher with showers, heaviest in the north
After a cloudy and locally damp start, it brightens up through the day with sunny spells developing. Showers break out into the afternoon, heaviest and most frequent across Cumbria and the north of the region, while many southern areas stay largely dry.
Showers continue overnight, some heavy near Irish Sea coasts with an isolated rumble of thunder possible, though inland areas see longer clear spells. It will feel fresher and less humid than recent nights.
Highs of 17C to 19C, cooler than of late, falling to around 11C to 13C overnight. Breezier too, with westerly winds gusting 25 to 32 mph during the day, strongest on exposed coasts and hills, easing this evening.
