Cloudy start with patchy drizzle, brightening later before a chilly night
Today is a rather cloudy and cooler day across North West England, with a weak band of light rain and drizzle slowly edging south and east across the region. Rainfall amounts will be small, and skies gradually brighten from the north through the afternoon, especially across Cumbria and north Lancashire. Highs of around 14C to 17C.
Any lingering drizzle in the south clears this evening, leaving a dry night with lengthy clear spells. It turns chilly inland, dropping to around 8C with some misty patches by dawn, while coasts stay a little milder.
Winds are light to moderate from the west or south-west, with gusts of 10 to 17 mph inland and up to around 22 mph on exposed coasts, easing inland overnight. Looking ahead, Saturday brings a brighter start to the weekend before wetter, windier weather arrives on Sunday.
