Fine and warm today, rain arriving overnight
After a chilly and locally misty start, Thursday brings plenty of warm hazy sunshine with light winds. Cloud will slowly increase from the west through the afternoon as a southerly breeze picks up, but it stays dry, with highs of 18C to 21C, warmest inland and a little fresher on the coast.
This evening remains dry but increasingly cloudy and breezy. Overnight, rain spreads in from the northwest, reaching coastal Cumbria and Lancashire first before edging towards Merseyside and Cheshire by dawn, with hill fog forming as winds fall light. Lows around 10C to 12C.
Winds stay mostly light, with gusts generally 15 to 25 mph, strongest near exposed coasts and hills, easing inland during the evening.
