A fine, breezy Saturday with growing sunshine and a chilly night to come
Today is largely dry across North West England, with patchy morning cloud gradually clearing to leave increasing sunny spells. A few showers are possible at times across Cumbria and the far north, but most places stay dry, feeling bright and fresh.
It is a blustery day, with a brisk south-westerly wind gusting 25 to 35 mph inland and 35 to 45 mph on exposed coasts and hills. Temperatures reach around 17C to 20C, warmest in Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
This evening any northern showers fade, leaving a dry night with long clear spells and easing winds. Temperatures fall to around 9C to 11C in towns, but noticeably lower in the countryside, giving a chilly night. A fine, sunny day follows on Sunday.
