Fresher today with hazy sunshine, then rain overnight
A fresher day across North West England with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers, mainly over Cumbria and near the Pennines. Most places, especially further south, stay dry with the sunshine turning hazier through the afternoon as cloud thickens from the west. Highs of around 15C to 17C.
This evening remains largely dry, but rain arrives on western coasts later before spreading across the whole region overnight, turning locally heavy at times. It stays mild and turns breezier, with lows of 11C to 13C.
Winds are light to moderate west to south-westerly today, with gusts of 15 to 25 mph, strengthening this evening to around 25 to 33 mph on exposed coasts and hills as the rain moves in.
